Everton boardroom news as Jordan Pickford contract agreement leads to frustration

Jordan Pickford is frustrated that new contract talks with Everton have not yet been confirmed, with the decision currently “held up at board level”, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The Toffees goalkeeper has just 18 months of his contract remaining at Goodison Park and has been linked with a move to a top Premier League club after a brilliant World Cup campaign with England.

Since his move to the club in 2017, the 28-year-old has moved from strength to strength and produced a stunning 2021/22 campaign which played a huge part in keeping the Merseyside club in the Premier League.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Phillips explained how Pickford was “not happy” with his ongoing contract situation ahead of the January transfer window.

He said: “The Pickford situation is very strange. It’s clear that the player is not happy that the contract hasn’t already been done and dusted, basically.

“There was an agreement, we were told a few weeks ago, but his agent is clearly out there now saying that there’s some frustration that it’s been held up at board level.”

Get it done

What could be the reason for the delays in Pickford’s contract talks?

The club should be moving heaven and earth to secure the capture of the England shot-stopper on an extended contract, but it seems the club could be in serious financial disarray if they can’t pluck up the courage to pay Pickford his desired wages.

Over the last two seasons, the keeper has been an unbelievable presence between the sticks for Frank Lampard’s side, and his heroics in the relegation run-in will never be forgotten.

Losing a player of Pickford’s quality and presence would be a crushing blow to the current regime and could well prove a death knell if they fail to sign the required quality of personnel in the January window.

With Asmir Begovic recently linked with a move to Rangers, the club can’t afford to lose both their keepers in the same year.

Get it done, and get it done quick.
