Everton could join hunt to sign Ismaila Sarr ahead of Tottenham and Aston Villa in January

Everton may look to hijack a move for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr as Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa lurk, according to The Guardian.

Unai Emery has made a winger his “top priority” in January as he looks to revolutionise the Villans with Sarr and former Toffees man Gerard Deulofeu on his radar.

The Senegalese international was a big story over the summer after Watford were relegated from the Premier League but he remained at Vicarage Road when the window slammed shut.

Villa look like the team in the box seat right now but The Guardian hinted that Everton and Tottenham could soon enter the race and make their hunt to sign him much harder.

In 20 Championship games for Watford this season, Sarr has scored six goals with four assists and played all four of Senegal’s matches at the Qatar World Cup, scoring once.

Everton have become rather predictable recently and while the point away at Manchester City was a very positive result, Frank Lampard knows he still needs a different angle of attack.

Of the wingers at Goodison Park right now, there is the nimble Demarai Gray, the accurate Dwight McNeil and the non-stop Anthony Gordon but none of those possesses the extreme pace to make a counter-attack lethal.

That is what Sarr would bring to Merseyside if Kevin Thelwell is able to make a move happen and beat Villa to the punch in a proper statement transfer.

It only takes one or two wins and suddenly the Villans are back in the relegation conversation so any upper hand Everton can get over a rival has to be taken at all costs.

He may not have lit the second tier up but it has been a typically turbulent year at Vicarage Road. Stability at Goodison Park under Lampard might be the final ingredient he needs to become a star.
