Everton fans chanted ‘sack the board’ after humiliating 4-1 loss v Brighton
Everton suffered a humiliating 4-1 loss against Brighton in the Premier League at Goodison Park on Tuesday (3 January) in the Premier League.
After Pascal Gross scored the fourth goal in the second half in the 57th minute, some Toffees fans chanted “sack the board”, as shared by Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas.
The Toffees were awful throughout the game. They trailed 1-0 at the break, but whatever Frank Lampard said didn’t work as they conceded three goals in quick succession in the second half.
“Some chants of ‘Sack the board’ ringing out from the Gwladys Street. Pascal Gross makes it 4-0,” wrote Thomas on Twitter.
Pathetic
It is hard to express in words how bad the performance was, and clearly, the board now needs to make a bold decision on Lampard.
This is pathetic and clearly painful to watch. Brighton dominated the game in every aspect, and it’s hard to believe that the Toffees players kept on chasing shadows.
Apart from Alex Iwobi and partly Demarai Gray, no one actually stood out. There was no cohesion, no desire to chase the ball, and no willingness to close down the players.

Brighton simply toyed with the Toffees players as if it were an exhibition game. It has been a recurrent theme under Lampard – whenever they concede, they just run out of ideas.
The problem at the club runs deeper than Lampard, true, but he is tactically very inept. At home, if you cannot inspire a side, and the players do not respond to your methods, then clearly something is wrong.
After earning a point against Manchester City, this was just a helpless surrender. This constant stooping to mediocrity is simply unacceptable.
