Everton schedule press conference amid new Frank Lampard sack speculation – Sky Sports

Under-fire Everton manager Frank Lampard will conduct the pre-match press conference ahead of FA Cup tie against Manchester United, according to Sky Sports.

The 44-year-old has seen speculation surrounding his future grow after the 4-1 home defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion, with The Guardian suggesting (4 January) Lampard is “on the brink” of being sacked.

However, it appears he will still be at Goodison Park for the press conference on Thursday (5 January), with Sky Sports revealing (15:58, 4 January) the former Chelsea boss is continuing to prepare for the fixture at Old Trafford.

Deeper issues

It’s hard to judge whether Everton’s issues really are down to Lampard and has management skills, with the Goodison Park board also responsible for the complete mismanagement of the club in recent years. Farhad Moshiri’s rein has been an abject failure and right now the Toffees are on a collision course with the Championship.

There are plenty of people to point the finger at for Evertonians. Lampard’s decision to revert back to a more expansive playing style against the Seagulls demonstrated a complete lack of respect for Brighton.

Everton

They’re among the better teams in the league, with an excellent manager and footballing structure in place. It was naive of the Everton boss to think his misfiring side could match Roberto De Zerbi’s men.

However, Lampard’s failure shouldn’t come as a surprise. There have been a number of people in his shoes who have also struggled to make an impact on Merseyside, and that’s largely down to the board and their incompetence. Until Moshiri relinquishes power, it’s hard to envisage anything apart from a miserable outlook for Evertonians.
