£25m twist emerges in Everton bid to sign Danny Ings from Aston Villa, Unai Emery speaks out

Danny Ings is still part of Unai Emery’s plans at Aston Villa as Everton remain keen on the 30-year-old striker, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Daily Mail journalist Dominic King wrote (Twitter, 4 January) that Villa would only be willing to sell the former Southampton man permanently, with the Toffees having a loan bid rejected.

The Mirror report (6 January, page 58) the Merseysiders are interested in a move for the £25million forward, although there’s a sense Emery wants Villa’s top scorer to remain in the West Midlands.

“Danny’s a very good player in the first XI. Against Brighton he scored two goals and, usually, gives impact,” said the Spaniard (quoted by The Mirror, 6 January, pg 58).

Unlikely

Ings is a proven goalscorer, but a move for the in-form striker does feel unlikely at the moment. It’s understandable to see why Villa would only be willing to sell Ings permanently as Emery looks to implement his own group of players at Villa Park.

Despite Ings being a proven Premier League goalscorer, Everton shouldn’t be looking to spend an excessive transfer fee for a player who is entering the latter stages of his career. If he did move to Goodison Park, there would be no chance of Everton selling the 30-year-old for any sort of profit when his time at the club comes to an end.

Everton

Signing the Aston Villa forward would demonstrate that the board haven’t learnt from their previous mistakes when it comes to transfers.

It’s time for the Toffees to start making smarter decisions in the transfer market, and if they fail to change their ways in the January window, there’s a strong chance they could be playing in the Championship come the start of the 2023/24 season.
