Tom Cannon unlikely to leave Everton on loan in January
Everton are not looking willing to let Tom Cannon leave the club in January amid loan interest from the Championship, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The 19-year-old is being courted by a number of Football League clubs with Preston North End among the clubs most keen on signing him in January on a temporary basis.
Lilywhites manager Ryan Lowe even described Cannon as a “fantastic” player, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo, having scored nine goals for the Everton Under-21s this season in 13 matches.

Recently, Cannon has been given substitute appearances in the Toffees’ first team by Frank Lampard in games against Bournemouth and Wolves while he scored in the Sydney Super Cup against Western Sydney Wanderers.
Despite the interest in the 19-year-old, who played two games for the Republic of Ireland Under-19s in 2020, Everton are not keen to let him go and will wait until they have signed a striker before entertaining such a prospect.
Pointless
Lampard has the prime example of how much good a loan can do right under his nose having just recalled Ellis Simms from Sunderland, also in the Championship, after a stellar season so far.
Tony Mowbray wanted to keep the 21-year-old at the Stadium of Light for the rest of the season because he was scoring goals and playing well, which is all you can really ask of him.

He is now back at Goodison Park and sitting on the bench while Neal Maupay continues to get starts and regular minutes despite proving to be rather lacklustre in front of goal.
If Simms can’t get a game at the moment then Cannon has almost no chance of it so he has to get himself out on loan to experience senior football for the first time.
The Papa John’s Trophy helps somewhat but until he is playing two games each week for five weeks in a row, he will not be ready for the intensity of the Premier League and Lampard of all people should know that.
