Viktor Gyokeres bid update emerges after Everton line up major cash plus Ellis Simms offer
Coventry City are still yet to receive any offers for key Everton transfer target Viktor Gyokeres, according to the Coventry Telegraph.
TEAMtalk reported on Saturday (7 January) that the Toffees were prepared to offer Ellis Simms in a deal to land the Swedish international because they felt he was an attainable option compared to Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Diaz.
Gyokeres is also a target for Premier League rivals Leeds United and Fulham, while Fulham and Wolves are apparently interested in addition.
Despite this, the Monday update says that none have yet even made an enquiry over a January deal for the £18million-rated striker.
Manager Mark Robins doesn’t want to lose his primary weapon in attack, and as of yet he is apparently in line to keep hold of him, as the report says: “CoventryLive understands that, to date, the club have not received any offers or inquiries for Gyokeres’ services.”
Crickets
Everton sound so serious about a move for Gyokeres that it is very strange that they haven’t even been in touch with the Sky Blues, and widely reported interest from other sides not generating a single enquiry, let alone bid, is similarly odd.
There is the possibility that sources at the Championship club are so loath to lose the 24-year-old in the January window that they are denying any and all movement publicly.
Gyokeres is attracting this level of interest for a reason, after he scored his 13th goal of the season as Coventry were shocked in the FA Cup by Wrexham on Saturday, and netted 18 times in all competitions last term.
Whether that is sufficient to see the Toffees offer Simms, two years younger and not miles behind in scoring over the past 12 months, into a package is open to question.
Fans would surely prefer to see the Swede added to the squad in addition to the young Everton forward getting an opportunity, after he was recalled early from his loan at Sunderland.
But there is going to need to be movement soon in an official capacity from someone if Gyokeres is to be going anywhere prior to the close of the window.
