Villarreal CEO addresses transfer stories on duo linked with Everton move in January

Villarreal CEO Roig Negueroles has revealed that the club is yet to receive any formal offers for Arnaut Danjuma and Nicolas Jackson, both being linked with a move to Everton this month.

The Yellow Submarine chief, however, accepts that “it is true” there is interest in those two players, but even he doesn’t know what will happen in the next few weeks.

TEAMtalk reported on 3 January that a host of clubs including the Toffees are interested in Jackson, while Daily Mail reported on 10 January that they have held talks to sign Danjuma as well.

“Right now we do not have a formal offer, it is true that there are rumors and there is interest,” said Negueroles, as quoted by AS.

“I think that the market is beginning to move now and we will see how it evolves.

“I don’t know what will happen in the next few weeks.”

Get it done

The Toffees badly need to bolster their forward options in January, and the two players from Villarreal would add tremendous depth to their squad.

Finance is a big factor here as the Toffees are operating on a low budget in the January market.

Danjuma is someone the club would like to sign on loan. The player would be available in the market for the rest of the season, but Everton can expect a lot of competition for him.

Everton

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder enjoyed a terrific 2021-22 campaign where he scored 10 goals in La Liga, but he hasn’t been at his prolific best so far.

Having managed just two goals in six starts in La Liga this season, he is not getting enough game time, and the club could look to send him away on loan.

Jackson, 21, could be a smart signing for the club, not only for the present but also for the future. However, with Unai Emery turning attention as well, the Toffees need to be quick to get his signature over the line.
