Everton enquire about Scott McTominay as Manchester United stance revealed

Erik ten Hag is not willing to let Everton target Scott McTominay leave Manchester United in the January window, according to 90min.

It’s understood United have told all interested parties that the 26-year-old is not for sale and that he is viewed as a big part of ten Hag’s plans (90min, 13 January).

It’s believed United are yet to receive any bids for the Scotland international but Everton, Leeds, West Ham and Leicester have all asked about McTominay’s availability.

Move on

Everton certainly have more pressing concerns than a central midfielder at present and McTominay has hardly pulled up any trees at Old Trafford. He’s been a big part of a United side who have underperformed for years and isn’t what the Toffees need at the moment.

Furthermore, he would arrive at Goodison Park demanding big wages and would be in line with players Everton have recruited in the past. It’s time for the board to start making smarter decisions when it comes to transfers and look to be savvier in the market.

A midfielder is also not going to be top of the agenda for Frank Lampard in the January window. His side have been desperately short up front and need more of an attacking threat.

The Toffees have been looking at Aston Villa striker Danny Ings, although it’s been suggested by The Daily Mail’s Dominic King wrote (Twitter, 4 January) that Villa would only be willing to sell the former Southampton man permanently after Everton had a loan bid rejected.
