Yannick Bolasie makes ‘wild’ claim on Everton board amid recent accusations

Yannick Bolasie has claimed there is little evidence to suggest Everton fans have done anything wrong after a number of reported incidents at Goodison Park.

The board were urged to stay away from the home fixture against Southampton on Saturday morning (Liverpool Echo, 14 January) with fans looking to stage a sit-in protest after the game.

The statement from the club also follows the news that CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale was allegedly placed in a headlock after the 4-1 defeat to Brighton (Liverpool Echo, 14 January).

Ian Wright has since apologised (Wright’s House Podcast, 17 January) after condemning the actions of the fans on Match of the Day and Bolasie has since agreed with the Arsenal legend’s latest comments

“The love and respect I have for Ian Wright one of the originals and most real, glad he’s come out and said that because it’s true,” said Bolasie (personal Twitter account, 17 January)

“The way a lot of people started saying things about the fans was wild without any evidence just stories, a lot of people spinning their own.

“All I’ll say is I found it very weird these things would be said the morning of the game…such an important one as well after a whole week had passed.”

Questions need answers

As of Tuesday (17 January), there have been no reports of incidents to the police. Unfortunately, the claims which have been made currently have no substantiation and that is yet another concern for Evertonians.

Instead of facing the issues which currently engulf the club, the board are potentially trying to divert attention onto the fans and that’s not a positive sign.

Everton

All attention should currently be focussed on the pitch for the board with Frank Lampard’s job currently hanging by a thread. Furthermore, the January transfer market also means a decision on the former Chelsea boss has to be made sooner rather than later.

Everton are yet to kickstart their business and if they do opt to sack Lampard it will leave the new boss with little time to strengthen what is currently a very weak squad.

These are extremely concerning times for everyone involved with the club and it does feel like the coming weeks could make or break when it comes to the Toffees’ hopes of avoiding relegation.
