talkSPORT journalist shares Farhad Moshiri ‘sympathy’ claim amid current Everton ‘mess’

Alex Crook has “sympathy” for Farhad Moshiri with the Everton owner currently facing criticism from vast swathes of the Goodison Park faithful.

There has been a large feeling of discontent around the club in recent weeks which culminated during the weekend’s Premier League clash against Southampton.

The board were urged to stay away from the ground due to security concerns ahead of the match, with Moshiri, Bill Kenwright and Denise Barrett-Baxendale bearing the brunt of much of the fans’ frustrations.

However, Crook has sympathy for Moshiri after his significant investment into the club since his arrival on Merseyside.

“It’s a mess. They can’t win on the pitch and they can’t win off it either. I don’t see where they go from here Everton,” said Crook (talkSPORT Gameday podcast, 17 January).

“I do have a little bit of sympathy for Farhad Moshiri when you hear him speak. A lot of owners get criticised for not spending money and you can’t level that at Moshiri, he’s spent money badly.”

“That’s why Everton are in the situation they are.”

Reset

A reset is desperately required right throughout the club. Moshiri may well have invested a lot during his time on Merseyside but sadly he doesn’t have the level of competence required to bring success to the Toffees.

No matter what happens this season there will be a disconnect between the board and the fans and it does feel like it will be impossible for bridges to be built in the future.

Everton

The sad reality for Everton is that recent events will make the club a very unattractive prospect for any potential buyer. Who would really be interested in buying a club which is currently on a collision course with the Championship?

Yet again the sole focus has to be on securing their Premier League status and reassessing the situation in the summer. With the new stadium currently being constructed relegation cannot be on the cards with the second half of the 2022/23 season now vital for the Toffees’ longer-term future.
