Everton keep tabs on Chris Wood, Newcastle United to sanction St James’ Park exit

Everton are keeping tabs on Chris Wood’s situation with the Newcastle United striker free to leave St James’ Park this month, according to 90min.

The 31-year-old has fallen down the pecking order in the North East and it’s understood the Magpies are willing to listen to offers for the striker (90min, 19 January).

It’s understood Nottingham Forest have made a move and are in talks over a potential loan move. Leeds United, Everton, Southampton and Bournemouth are all said to be keeping tabs on the New Zealand international’s situation.

Worrying

We are now in the final 12 days of the January window are the silence coming from Goodison Park is deafening. The Toffees have now missed out on Aston Villa striker Danny Ings to West Ham United, with the 31-year-old now set to line up against Frank Lampard’s side on Saturday (21 January).

The Daily Mail’s Dominic King revealed (via Twitter, 4 January) the Toffees had a loan bid rejected for the striker earlier on in the month, and the club’s reluctance to pay a transfer fee looks like it could back to bite them.

Wood would be a clever addition if they can come to terms with Newcastle, although, the situation is likely to be the same as Ings’ with the Magpies preferring a loan exit.

This weekend’s clash against the Hammers is looking like a do-or-die clash for Lampard and David Moyes. A defeat will surely be the final straw for the Everton boss after a dismal run of results.
