Newcastle United want to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anthony Gordon from Everton

Newcastle United remain interested in signing Everton duo Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anthony Gordon in the January transfer window, as reported by Luke Edwards.

The Telegraph journalist reported on 20 January on Twitter that the Magpies were heavily keen to sign the Everton duo last summer, but Frank Lampard wasn’t willing to part ways.

However, the Magpies still retain an interest in both of them, although Calvert-Lewin has barely featured this season.

“Calvert Lewin (is) a long standing target for Newcastle. Everton wouldn’t sell in the summer. Same with Gordon. Makes sense if both remain of interest. Then you have Ziyech, Gallagher and Loftus-Cheek at Chelsea. Newcastle suddenly have a lot of irons in fires and a manager wanting action,” wrote Edwards.

Unlikely

It comes as a bit of a surprise that the Magpies are still interested in both the players.

Calvert-Lewin has struggled with injuries once again, and he has managed just one goal in seven starts for the Toffees.

The 25-year-old is a fantastic striker and Everton wanted him to deliver after losing Richarlison to Tottenham. He was supposed to be their talisman this season, but he has barely featured.

Everton

Calvert-Lewin still remains the big hope for the Toffees, and it would take a massive bid to lure him away from the club, although doubts remain whether Everton will allow him to leave this month under any circumstance.

The same can be said about Gordon. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder started the season brightly, but he appears to have lost his spark.

He has managed only three goals in 16 appearances for the Toffees. However, he is a big asset to the club, and Everton are unlikely to sell him, although there is a feeling that the Toffees could soften their stance.
