Anthony Gordon goes AWOL, Everton chiefs unsure of whereabouts as forward tries to force through Newcastle transfer
Anthony Gordon missed training for a second day with Everton chiefs unsure of the winger’s whereabouts, according to iNews journalist Mark Douglas.
Writing for iNews (25 January), Douglas reports that Gordon is “pushing hard” for a move to Newcastle, and his absence on Wednesday was not with Everton’s blessing.
The 21-year-old want the Toffees to give him permission to talk with Newcastle, but the club are holding off making any decision as they look to have more clarity on their managerial situation.
Likely
It looks likely that Gordon will leave the club before the January deadline irrespective of whether the Toffees appoint a new manager or not by that time.
Gordon was heavily linked with a move during the summer to Chelsea, but Frank Lampard persuaded him to stay put.
His performances have been great and there is a sense that the mood around the move has changed at the club. Everton are in dire need of funds to bolster their relegation-threatened squad, and they are open to letting Gordon leave.

The youngster is Eddie Howe’s number one target, and the Magpies feel that he is someone who can grow into a top player under proper management.
Gordon has not put in a transfer request, but a move away from Goodison Park is likely.
Newcastle value him at around £30m, and that too on a structured deal, whereas the club want more.
If Everton really need to sell him they should reject part payments. They need cash now to provide their next manager with a transfer budget to spend in the final few days of the window.
