Richard Keys reacts to Marcelo Bielsa snub at Everton, drops £1billion Farhad Moshiri verdict

Richard Keys has suggested Everton have “dodged a bullet” after Marcelo Bielsa refused to take the managerial vacancy at Goodison Park.

The Daily Mail revealed (27 January) that the Argentine had turned down the opportunity to replace Frank Lampard after flying in from Brazil to hold talks.

Sean Dyche is now the man to replace the former Chelsea boss and Keys has claimed the 51-year-old “feels” like a better fit. However, the BeIN Sports host doesn’t believe Dyche is the “answer” with Farhad Moshiri “selling up” being the best solution for the Toffees.

“Everton have dodged a bullet if Bielsa has said ‘no’. We don’t know if Dyche is right but it feels like a better fit,” wrote Keys (Twitter, 27 January).

“He’s not the answer – [Moshiri] selling up is – but at £500m and £500m for the stadium, there aren’t any takers. Good luck Sean. You’ll need it.”

Keys tweeted saying Alisher Usmanov should sell Everton in his tweet but the Russian-Uzbek billionaire is no longer associated with the Blues.

Best man for the job

Without a doubt, Dyche is the best man for the job at Everton. The requirement is to stay in the Premier League and to secure short-term sustainability. Could Bielsa have achieved this if he had taken the job at Goodison Park?

His expansive, volatile and unique way of managing is not what is required when trying to resurrect a side who are currently nailed on to be playing Championship football in the 2022/23 campaign. Dyche has one hell of a job on his hands and he has to find an immediate tune out of this group of players.

Everton

All the backroom problems at the club must be put to one side. This group of players have to step up and show they’re capable of making a fight out of this season. Relegation will have a dramatic impact on the future of the club and it has to be avoided at all costs.

The issues in the boardroom can be properly rectified in the summer.
