Anthony Gordon leaves Everton as image emerges of yet-to-be announced Newcastle contract signing

Anthony Gordon’s Everton exit looks to be as good as done with an image emerging online of his Newcastle contract signing.

The transfer is yet to be officially announced by either club, but a photo is now circulating on Twitter showing the 21-year-old Toffees academy product signing his new deal while wearing a Magpies shirt.

The fee is reportedly £45million [Keith Downie, 27 January], for the man who came close to a move to Chelsea at the end of the summer window, and reduces incoming manager Sean Dyche’s options for the rest of the season.

There had been high hopes for Gordon’s future at Goodison Park, even as recently as the start of the season when he led the line in the absence of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but an official announcement that those plans are over is clearly now imminent.

Gone

The youngster’s form had declined to the point where Frank Lampard wasn’t always starting him so the immediate affect on the team won’t be as great as it was in the opening weeks of the campaign.

It is a lot of money for a player who was largely on the bench and his exit hasn’t gone down well everywhere, but it is still somewhat of a blow given how he can be a real threat when on his game.

The relationship between the fans and the player is not the same as it once was either way, and he was obviously intent on leaving this time as he stayed away from training.

Everton

Dyche will have to hope that the money can be put towards some new additions for him before the close of the window, but Lampard ended up waiting until his job ended without anyone coming in.

If nobody is coming in the new boss is going to have to organise the players he has to lift the club out of the relegation mire.

He made Burnley tough to beat as he kept them stable in the top flight for a long time, and he is now charged with doing the same at Everton, but with Gordon now gone he could do with some more in attack.
