Everton defender Michael Keane expected to stay despite exit links

Everton defender Michael Keane is expected to stay at the club despite being linked with a move away from Goodison Park, according to journalist Alan Myers.

The 30-year-old central defender has played only 22 minutes of football in the Premier League this season.

He was linked with a move away from Goodison with talkSPORT reporting on 24 January that Leeds United are interested in signing him.

“I expect Micheal Keane to remain at Everton now, despite being linked to moves away from the club,” wrote Myers on Twitter (27 January).

Makes sense

Keane dropped down the pecking order at the club under Frank Lampard.

He was completely frozen out and it looked like the 30-year-old is heading for the exit.

However, he has now a chance to revive his career following Lampard’s exit.

Dean Dyche is set to be appointed as the club’s new manager and he knows Keane very well.

Everton

Keane was one of the standout players for Burnley before he made a move to Everton, and Dyche could look to get the best out of him.

The Toffees do have loads of options at the back. They have James Tarkowski, Conor Coady, Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina alongside Keane.

They have got too many options in that position and Dyche needs to offload some of them to balance the book.

With only a few days remaining in the January window, it will be interesting to see how many players Dyche can bring in to the club.
