Sean Dyche announcement as new Everton manager possible Saturday

Sean Dyche’s announcement as the new Everton manager could come before the end of Saturday, according to Sky Sports’ Alan Myers.

The former Burnley boss was selected as the new Toffees boss on Friday (27 January), having overcome favourite Marcelo Bielsa who was unwilling to take over midseason.

Frank Lampard’s sacking last Monday (23 January) left the club scrambling to replace their manager during the winter transfer window for the second season running, and Dyche may now be unveiled in less than a week.

Myers posted on Twitter on Saturday afternoon (28 January) with a crossed fingers emoji: “Announcement still possible today.”

Time is of the essence

With the decision made Dyche should at least be having input behind the scenes in regard to the January window, with reinforcements now even more necessary given the impending departure of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle.

He takes over with Everton 19th in the Premier League and battling for top flight survival already, so while he is expected to reorganise and improve the current squad, he could certainly still do with some new arrivals.

Lampard struggled badly with his attack once Gordon went off the boil and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin so short of football.

Everton

Richarlison has still yet to be adequately replaced, so the new manager and the supporters will be desperately hoping that doesn’t come back to bite this team come May.

Lampard brought in Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli on deadline day a year ago, in the only day of the window left once he was in place, and neither’s time at Goodison Park was a hit.

Perhaps Dyche feels that he will be ok without signings, and his eagerness to take over now compared to Bielsa’s need for time to implement his system has played a role in him getting the job.

If the ex-Turf Moor boss is announced before the end of the Saturday, or at least the weekend, the club can turn their attentions fully to look for some additions before the real work begins to drag Everton out of the drop zone.
