Robbie Fowler laughed out loud after what he read about Everton chief Farhad Moshiri
Robbie Fowler has admitted he “laughed out loud” when he found out Farhad Moshiri wanted Marcelo Bielsa to replace Frank Lampard at Everton.
The Daily Mail claimed (27 January) the Argentine manager turned down the Toffees after jetting in from Brazil to hold talks with the club’s hierarchy.
Sean Dyche has been chosen to succeed Lampard and Fowler has admitted he found is amusing to see the former Leeds boss linked with the job.

“I laughed out loud when I saw Farhad Moshiri wanted Marcelo Bielsa as his manager. Yeah, he’s a great coach with a great reputation, who has a very singular view of the job and his way of doing it,” said Fowler (Sunday Mirror, pg. 75, 29 January).
“I could have told them from the start that he wasn’t a manager to come in during a January and somehow scrap his way to survival. And it turns out he told them exactly that when he met Moshiri. Again it’s hilarious. Apparently he said he’d work with the under-21s until the simmer.”
Right time
Had the Toffees been safe from relegation and looking to implement a long-term football philosophy at the club, then Bielsa would have been an interesting choice. He would’ve been respected by the players and certainly brought some excitement back to Goodison Park.
However, the Merseyside club are in a relegation battle and whether Bielsa is the right man to steer the Toffees away from the drop zone is certainly up for debate. Dyche looks to be the safer option for the club to pursue, and the former Burnley boss will give Everton the best chance of survival.

The 51-year-old has proven his ability to work with tight budgets and get the most out of players. Despite this, one or two more players need to come through the door in the coming days. Everton are lacking a spark going forward and in Anthony Gordon completes his move to Newcastle they would have lost another attacking threat.
