Amadou Onana tells clubs he wants to be part of Sean Dyche era at Everton amid Arsenal links

Amadou Onana has told all suitors that he wants to stay at Everton and give the Sean Dyche era a chance, according to Ben Jacobs.

The Belgian midfielder only arrived in the summer, as the highlight of Frank Lampard’s only full transfer window in charge, and became a stalwart in the former bosses starting XI.

Chelsea have already made an offer that included multiple loan players moving the other way which was rejected by the 21-year-old [Telegraph, 26 January], but amid continuing links to league leaders Arsenal he has apparently also shut down any other interested party for this window as well, with the new manager just announced on Monday (30 January).

Writing in his latest takeover of Fabrizio Romano’s Substack column for Caught Offside on Monday (30 January) CBS journalist Jacobs said: “We know midfielders are on Arsenal’s radar. Amadou Onana has indicated to all suitors that have enquired that, having only joined Everton in the summer, he would still prefer to stay and see how the club pans out under expected new manager Sean Dyche.”

Commitment

Moises Caicedo has shown what overtures from the Premier League leaders can do, with Mikel Arteta’s side five points clear at the top with a game in hand and offering big money for the Brighton man.

He has tried to push through a move to the Emirates [BBC Sport, 27 January] that as yet looks like being unsuccessful, but in stark contrast to that Everton’s midfield gem has renewed his commitment to the cause.

There is no choice but to be hopeful about the Dyche era, with things incapable of getting much worse, and the ex-Burnley manager’s ability to work on a small budget to keep a club in the top flight for many seasons well-regarded.

Everton

He wasn’t 100% successful as he was eventually sacked last season ahead of the Clarets going down, but his chances at Goodison will be boosted significantly with Onana sticking around.

There may yet be big changes in the midfield, after the Toffees turned the Anthony Gordon money from Newcastle into an immediate offer for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher [Sky Sports, 30 January], unsuccessfully.

So it looks like Dyche has plans to alter things in the middle, in addition to the well-publicised needs in attack, but after Gordon’s exit it looks like Onana has made clear he will still be available.
