Conor Gallagher rejects Everton as £40m offer made to Chelsea – Sky Sports journalist
Conor Gallagher is not interested in joining Everton after the Toffees lodged £40million plus add-ons bid for the Chelsea midfielder, according to Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam.
The Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed (via Twitter, 30 January) Everton had made a deadline-busting offer for the 22-year-old midfielder, with Gallagher set to decide on his next move.
However, it appears yet more transfer heartache is around the corner for the Merseyside club after McAdam suggested the former Crystal Palace loanee is not keen on a move to Goodison Park.

“Breaking news for you, breaking news for Chelsea fans and significantly, not very good news for Everton fans. We’ve been speaking in the last hour about talks with Chelsea over a potential deal for midfielder Conor Gallagher,” said McAdam (Sky Sports News, 3:43pm, 30 January)
“Our information in the last few moments is that Conor Gallagher is not interested in a move to Everton. There were discussions potentially about a £40m offer, there was a willingness from Everton to pay for what Chelsea were looking for. But it’s believed that this is not something that would interest Gallagher.”
Unsurprising
It was refreshing to see Everton linked with a player of Gallagher’s quality, but it won’t come as a surprise to see the 22-year-old turn the opportunity down. Everton’s league position and off-the-field situation is hardly the most appealing scenario for any new player to walk into.
It’s certainly a positive to see a bid of that size come from the Toffees, with the club clearly keen to reinvest the Anthony Gordon transfer fee. There’s still time left in the transfer window and Sean Dyche will be working around the clock to add to his squad before the Tuesday deadline.

One or two attacking additions have to be the priority for the board, particularly after Gordon’s move to Newcastle United. Goals have been hard to come by in the first half of the campaign, and unless more firepower arrives on Merseyside, Premier League survival could be a tough ask.
Everton cannot let this transfer disappointment deter them from their goals as the window edges closer to its conclusion.
