Everton now want to sign free agent Andre Ayew, time running out for other deals

Everton are interested in Andre Ayew as the Merseyside club face a race against time to conclude their transfer business ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, according to 90min.

Ayew, 33, is now a free agent after terminating his contract with Qatari side Al Sadd, and he’s understood to have attracted plenty of Premier League interest (90min, 30 January).

West Ham, Bournemouth, Southampton and Nottingham Forest have all expressed an interest in the former Swansea man. It’s also believed the Ghanian will attract the attention of Ligue 1 sides.

Typical Everton

This is what happens when there’s no structure in place. Everton have been slow in making decisions and now they are facing a scenario where they’re bringing players to the club who are well past their sell-buy date. Ayew could well come to the club and have one or two good games, but he will be on big wages and provide no resale value.

Unfortunately, Sean Dyche has been left with little option but to target players such as Ayew due to the window entering its latter stages. The Toffees have faced yet more disappointment on the transfer front, with Conor Gallagher the latest player to decline a move to Goodison Park.

Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam revealed (30 January) that Gallagher was not keen on a move after Everton had lodged a £40million plus add-on bid for the 22-year-old.

There’s no time for the club to dwell on past transfer failures, with another winger and potentially another forward an absolute priority heading into deadline day.
