Everton in last-gasp hunt to sign Reading striker Lucas Joao
Everton are showing a last-gasp interest in Reading forward Lucas Joao as they desperately search for a late addition to strikeforce, according to Daily Mail journalist Simon Jones [15:16].
The Toffees are in desperate need of some attacking reinforcements to boost Sean Dyche’s squad, following his appointment at the helm on Monday [Sky Sports, 30 January].
The club have been linked with a whole host of strikers this month, and there’s now another name in the frame as the club continues to scour the market for solutions.

According to journalist Jones [Daily Mail, 31 January, 15:16], the Toffees are showing late interest in Reading forward Lucas Joao as they attempt to make some last-gasp signings on transfer deadline-day.
Desperate
The Toffees are in desperate need of attacking quality to boost Dyche’s squad ahead of the remainder of the season, and showing interest in Joao is a real sign of their desperation.
The 29-year-old forward has endured an unfruitful season with Paul Ince’s side having just scored five goals from 22 Championship games, following a sensational last two campaigns where he hit 29 league goals.

Certainly, the Toffees need to move fast with only a few hours left of the window but simply cannot afford to make more unnecessary and desperate deals as their current squad is showing.
At 29-years old, Joao will be a short-term fix when they need a long-term solution both for the rest of this campaign and in the future. Maybe the club need to set their priorities elsewhere in scouring the market for wingers, following Anthony Gordon’s departure.
