Richard Keys urges Sean Dyche to bring Peter Reid back to Everton, ‘he wouldn’t pull any punches’
Richard Keys has urged Sean Dyche to get Peter Reid back involved with Everton as he looks to steer the Toffees away from the bottom three.
Everton announced the appointment of the former Burnley boss on Monday (30 January), just one day before the January window slams shut.
Keys believes the going will get tough for Dyche and has claimed Reid would be a good influence around the club if he was brought back to Goodison Park.

“It’s going to get tight again – but Dyche will get Everton out of trouble. The first decision I’d make would be to get Peter Reid involved at the club again,” said the BeIN Sports host (Richard Keys column, 30 January).
“Reid is a blue legend as we all know. An Everton die-hard. It’s going to get bumpy for Dyche. If he had Reid about the club to explain what was happening he’d keep the hard-core fed-up faithful on board. Sadly they’ve lost respect for Graeme Sharp after recent events.
“Reid wouldn’t pull any punches. He’d tell it straight. He worked as a loyal lieutenant to Tony Pulis at Stoke – and Paul Cook at Wigan. I was surprised Sam Allardyce didn’t turn to him during his time in charge at Everton. Reid would be a breath of fresh air around Goodison and no threat to anyone. Think about it eh Sean?”
Huge task
Dyche has worked wonders in the past, but helping Everton escape relegation would be one of the biggest achievements of his managerial career. He knows how to get the best out of a group of players and he simply has to do that at Goodison Park.
Everton have yet to make any inroads on the transfer front, with Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher the latest player to reject a move to Merseyside (Sky Sports journalist, Mark McAdam, 30 January).

Tuesday could well be a crucial day in the club’s recent history. At least two attacking reinforcements are required in the coming days. The club have only got themselves to blame for not backing Frank Lampard and then deciding to sack him with just a matter of days left.
Backroom staff appointments can probably wait for the time being, with there currently more pressing concerns for Dyche to deal with. Let’s hope for some more encouraging news over the course of the next 24 hours.
