Jamie Carragher shares Everton takeover verdict on Sky Sports, Farhad Moshiri claim made

Jamie Carragher has suggested Farhad Moshiri could recoup the money he’s invested in Everton if the Toffees secure their Premier League survival.

The Guardian reported (24 January) that Moshiri is looking for £500million as he looks to recover some of the money he has put into the Bramley Moore-Dock Stadium.

Carragher feels Premier League survival has to be the main aim before sweeping changes take place in the boardroom.

“The owner wants to sell, it’s become pretty obvious, he’s lost a lot of money and it hasn’t gone as well as he would’ve liked,” said Carragher (Football Daily clip, 1 February).

“I am sure he wants to get Everton in the Premier League and in the new stadium it becomes a proposition where he can maybe get his money back and bring in somebody else with the expertise at boardroom level.

“Scouting level and director of football level where the club is run right and they can get a bit of bang for their buck if you like. They’ve spent so much money and the wage bill is certainly in the top ten in the Premier League so they shouldn’t be in the position that they’re in.

“It’s been a mess the last few years and Sean Dyche is the next one off of the conveyor belt, but I think for right now it’s about staying in the Premier League.”

Ultimate aim

The only aim for Everton has to be to secure their Premier League survival. The transfer window was an abject failure, with the Toffees failing to land an illusive attacking addition on deadline day. The board hit a new low point on 31 January, but there’s nothing that can be done now.

Potentially the signing of a free agent could soften the blow, but that’s about it. Now, the siege mentality from the 2021/22 season has to emerge. Dyche will be able to get the best out of what he has at his disposal, but the fans will have to play their part as well.

Everton are by no means cut adrift at the bottom of the Premier League and a couple of positive results will see them climb the league quickly. The boardroom problems have to be put to one side until the summer. If their Premier League status is sealed, the summer of 2023 could well prove to be an ideal chance for sweeping changes to occur.
