Everton could enjoy free ride to sign Dennis Geiger after Sky Sports journalist shares update

Everton could enjoy a free ride to sign German midfielder Dennis Geiger in the summer window with Eintracht Frankfurt reportedly not hot on the heels for his signature.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg reported on 10 February that Frankfurt are “not hot at this stage” to sign the 24-year-old midfielder.

Bild journalist Christian Falk reported on Caught offside on 10 February that Geiger could become Sean Dyche’s first signing at the club next summer, and that too on a free transfer.

Falk added that Frankfurt are also keeping tabs on the player, and the player could choose between the German side and Everton as his next club.

However, as it stands, Frankfurt that are not heavily keen on Gieger which gives the Toffees an upper hand in the race to sign him. Everton have shown “serious interest” in the player, and they have the financial power to pull off a deal for him.

“News Dennis Geiger: Rumors about (interest from) Eintracht are not hot at this stage!,” wrote Plettenberg.

After a disappointing January transfer window, the Toffees will look forward to next summer to rebuild the squad under Dyche.

However, it’s too early for the club to plan anything for the future. The Toffees must avoid relegation this season, as it could have huge ramifications on their future plans. With work on the new stadium underway, the club must stay in the Premier League to boost their finance.

The Toffees won’t be able to attract quality players if they are in the Championship. The squad will undergo a massive change as several key players will definitely look to leave the club.

If they manage to stay up, then bolstering the midfield should be a priority for Dyche. A combative central midfielder who has the ability to pick passes from the deep is required, and Gieger fits the bill.
