Darren Bent slams Jordan Pickford after Andy Robertson incident in Everton 2-0 loss v Liverpool
Darren Bent has slammed Jordan Pickford after the Everton goalkeeper was involved in an incident with Andy Robertson during the Toffees’ 2-0 loss to Liverpool.
The England international lost his cool in the second half after the Reds’ left-back decided to kick the ball away after the game had stopped.
However, Bent felt Pickford was “over-emotional” in the defeat at Anfield and was reminiscent of his old self against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
“Last night it almost felt like he reverted to Pickford of old. He was getting caught up in stuff he didn’t need to get caught up in. He was over-emotional,” said Bent (talkSPORT, 14 February).
“Even that bit at the end when Robertson kicked the ball away and he runs into him. Don’t get involved in it.
“The last couple of seasons you would say he hasn’t looked that emotional and calmed it down but last night he reverted back to Pickford.”
Strange
Pickford’s performance against Liverpool came out of the blue somewhat. The 28-year-old endured a tough night and was potentially at fault for the home side’s opening goal. He was caught well out of position and Mo Salah had the simple task of guiding the ball into an empty net.
He has been such a reliable player for Everton over the past couple of years and it appeared the rash side of his game was potentially behind him. Let’s all hope his performance against the Reds was just a one-off.

This weekend’s fixture against Leeds United is looking like a season-defining one for the Toffees. The West Yorkshire side make the trip to Merseyside just one point and one place above Sean Dyche’s men.
The former Burnley man heads into the fixture with a relatively clean bill of health, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin the main concern at present. The striker missed the game at Anfield and is battling to be fit for the visit of Leeds.
