Sean Dyche must start with Everton defender Ruben Vinagre in place of Vitalli Mykolenko v Leeds United

Sean Dyche must give Everton left-back Ruben Vinagre one chance to impress in the next game against Leeds United.

The 23-year-old defender joined in the summer on loan from Sporting CP, and he has barely featured this season.

He has managed just 24 minutes of action in the Premier League and has played in two cup games. Clearly, he was completely frozen out by Frank Lampard.

When Vinagre was signed in the summer, it looked like a smart signing. A young defender coming on loan with previous Premier League experience looked like a transfer masterstroke, but he was completely overlooked.

Vitalli Mykolenko has done a fine job since he joined the club, and he has been a regular starter at left-back this season. He was one of the players Lampard heavily trusted and was used in every game.

Dyche probably won’t be happy with Mykolenko’s effort against Liverpool. The Ukraine defender was shockingly poor during the game, and he was at fault for the opening goal. The left-back was in no man’s land as Liverpool made a quick counter-attack.

Neither he did close down Darwin Nunez nor was he in a position to prevent the cross from which Mohamed Salah scored. It was a school-boy error from him. He is a fine defender, but it’s time Dyche must give Vinagre one chance to show his talent.

The Portuguese defender, who can also play as a left-winger, could play a vital role for the club if he is given proper chance. Mykolenko needs competition, and Dyche can get this message across by dropping him for the next game.
