Dave Harrison seals one final Everton deal before exit to Manchester United

Outgoing Everton chief Dave Harrison has sealed his final deal before his move to Manchester United as Jordan Pickford’s new contract was confirmed.

“Contract Dave” is set to depart Goodison Park after 27 years with the director of football operations set to take up a similar role at Old Trafford.

However, he was pictured (Liverpool Echo’s Joe Thomas) sealing Pickford’s extension on Friday morning (24 February), which will keep England’s number one at Goodison Park until 2027.

Big blow

Despite there being plenty of unrest in the boardroom at present, Harrison was one of a few who is liked by the Goodison Park faithful and highly thought of. It’s clear he’s an asset to the club and his excellent work has been recognised due to his impending move to Manchester United.

The news of Pickford’s extension is certainly a huge boost, but losing a vital and well-liked boardroom member will certainly come as a blow. There’s an opportunity for the board to make a sensible appointment and show they’ve leant from past mistakes.

Everton

Whoever does come in to replace Harrison will have big shoes to fill and with rumblings of a takeover in the background, this is an appointment which could well be put on the back burner for the time being.

It could be a smart decision from the board. They’ve made plenty of mistakes in the past and rushing an appointment will see yet more criticism thrown their way.

Let’s hope this Pickford news is the start of a change of fortune for Everton.
