Everton loanee Tom Cannon backed to grace Premier League despite poor run of form

Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe is confident that Everton loanee Tom Cannon will soon get back among goals after a poor start to his loan spell.

Hull City boss Liam Rosenior hailed Cannon as an “outstanding” talent (19 February), although the 20-year-old is yet to open his scoring account for Preston in six games since joining on loan in the January window.

Lowe says that hailed him as a “real” talent, and he is confident that the youngster will grace the Premier League at some stage under Sean Dyche who will be keeping an eye on his progress.

He adds that probably Cannon is pushing hard for his first goal, but he has seen the youngster scoring goals in training using different shots this week.

“He is always going to be a good player and he’s probably going to grace the Premier League at some stage,” said Lowe, as quoted by Lancs Live.

“And he will score goals, because as I say he’s scored them from the age of eight, right the way through Everton’s ranks. He has had some good opportunities and goalkeepers have made some good saves. If you asked Tom, he’ll be disappointed he hasn’t scored at least one or two.

“You get frustrated and start snatching at things, but this week I’ve seen his shots, his different types of finishes and I am sure he will score very soon. The expectation on Tom is his own – he is here, wanting to thrive and now for Sean Dyche’s eyes, so that his ears pick up when he sees Tom Cannon playing, performing and hopefully scoring goals.

“He hasn’t gone this long in his 21s career or 18s career. I am a big believer that once he gets one, he will get a few because he is a real good talent.”

Top talent

Cannon is one of the brightest young talents at the club, and he needs to enjoy his game at the moment.

The youngster scored 17 goals in all competitions for the academy side this season, and he is definitely someone who can represent the senior team in the long run.

Frank Lampard gave him his debut in the Premier League this season, and he also featured in the FA Cup as well.

Despite the fact that the Toffees are lacking depth in their forward region, the club decided that a move to the Championship would be beneficial for his career.

He is too good for academy levels, and need different kind of challenge that will help him grow as a player.

Cannon is a natural goalscorer and he must be disappointed that he is yet to open his scoring account for his new club. It’s good to see that the Preston boss has full faith in the youngster, and let’s hope he can make the best use of his loan spell.
