Alan Shearer tears into Everton duo in 2-0 loss v Aston Villa

Alan Shearer has slammed Conor Coady and James Tarkowski, after Everton lost 2-0 against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday (25 February).

While watching footage on Premier League TV production (25 February, 3.19.44min), Shearer said both the defenders were “terrible” after Emiliano Beundia scored the winning goal.

Ollie Watkins scored the opening goal for the club as he netted for a fifth consecutive league game after Idrissa Gueye tripped John McGinn in the box.

Everton

“Good win for Villa. They knew if they wants to get one, it was going to be tough for Everton,” said Shearer.

“Buendia there. Coady and Tarkowski. Terrible defending from both of them.”

Bounce back

After two wins in a row at Goodison Park, Sean Dyche had sparked hope among the fans.

With wins over Arsenal and Leeds, it appeared that the players found a new belief under their new manager and that they could climb up the table.

However, the defeat against Villa came as a crushing blow. They were brilliant against Villa in the first half and created lots of chances, but in the absence of a top-quality striker, they suffered yet again.

Everton

With Leeds and West Ham winning their respective games, Everton have dropped down to the relegation zone.

What has been really painful for the fans is that the matters off the pitch aren’t pretty either.

Truth be told, the Toffees do not have any remedy to their problems. They are the league’s lowest scorers with 17 goals, but top striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is injured while Anthony Gordon was sold in the January window.
