Everton fans will demand takeover clarity after reports emerge revealing Farhad Moshiri talks with MSP

Everton fans will be demanding some clarity over any potential takeover after reports emerged that majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is continuing talks with MSP Sports Capital.

The Toffees faithful endured yet another Premier League campaign of under-performance on the pitch and incompetence off it as the club find themselves strapped in a second consecutive relegation dogfight.

There has been plenty of unrest, criticism and protests aimed at the club board and Moshiri over their constant mismanagement and lack of transparency regarding the business going on behind the scenes at Goodison Park.

However, fans have been handed some kind of hope that the current tenure may well be coming to a close very soon after reports emerged in iNews [22 February] revealing that MSP Sports Capital, the firm, headed by Jahm Najafi, have been in communication with Toffees owner Moshiri over the purchase of as much as a quarter of the club, valued at £105million.

The report goes on to reveal that investment could be secured in the “near future” with negotiations understood to be at an advanced stage.

Moshiri reportedly wants to bring expertise and advice to the club as well as investment and seats on the board are being talked about for Najafi, Jeff Moorad and Pete Taylor from the firm as revealed by the report.

While such news may come as a huge relief to many of the Toffees faithful, the lack of communication and transparency from the club board surrounding such matters really has not helped.

Things have gotten so unbelievably bad around Goodison Park that the Toffees board have constantly been warned to stay away [Sky News, 14 January] from the ground at matches. The Athletic also claimed chief executive Barrett-Baxendale was put in a headlock by a man as she left the directors’ box at a previous game.

Liverpool ECHO journalist Joe Thomas wrote on 1 February, that the club’s failure to add quality to Sean Dyche’s squad during the January window will leave the board and Moshiri with awkward questions they can no longer answer.

He said: “How, and why, are questions supporters deserve answers to. But there is no suitable explanation beyond an acceptance the club is in turmoil. And should one be offered, fans have every right to question the level of faith they can place in it.”

But yet, simple questions such as what is happening with any potential takeover? Who are MSP Sports Capital and what are their plans for the club in the long term? What will that mean for the current club board? Will there be a change in power? How can the fans get involved need to be answered.

It’s been seven years of chaos and disappointment at Everton, and fans are really just desperate to know how the club is planning to move forward in the long haul.
