Everton want to sign Arsenal hero Reiss Nelson with free transfer on the cards amid talks

Everton want to sign Arsenal forward Reiss Nelson on a free transfer with the youngster’s contract negotiations with the Gunners stalling, according to 90min.

The 23-year-old has become a valuable member of Mikel Arteta’s title-chasing team and scored a 97th-minute winner against Bournemouth on 4 March.

The Blues aren’t the only team looking to capture Nelson’s signature with West Ham, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Burnley and Southampton also in the mix.

“Arsenal are set to continue talks with Reiss Nelson over a new contract, but they are not close to reaching an agreement with the winger, sources have told 90min,” as quoted by 90min (5 March).

“90min understands that talks will continue over a new contract with Nelson’s current one set to expire in the summer, but as of yet a breakthrough hasn’t been reached nor is one close.

“Sources have told 90min that London clubs Brentford, Crystal Palace, and West Ham would be interested in signing Nelson on a free transfer, while he has interest from outside the capital in runaway Championship leaders Burnley, Everton and Southampton.

“Nelson has already received offers from clubs in France, Germany and Italy. He has experience in playing on the continent following loan spells at Hoffenheim and Feyenoord.”

Real coup.

Nelson would be some coup for Everton and he’s the type of gung-ho attacker that is needed at Goodison Park right now.

He’s impressed thoroughly in his brief cameos for the Gunners this season and Everton could look to capitalise on his lack of playing time at the Emirates Stadium.

Nevertheless, Evertonians have heard it all before with transfer stories like this one and the club always seem to miss out on golden opportunities like this one.

Signing an abundance of new talents this summer is simply essential to the club achieving anything next season, whether that’s in the Premier League or the Championship.

Any potential deal for Nelson would likely hinge on the Blues securing Premier League safety and it would be hard to see him moving down a league should the Toffees be relegated.

Hopefully, Sean Dyche can work some of his man-management skills on the negotiations table with this one.
