Everton transfer news as club could suffer embarrassing Cenk Tosun blunder

Everton could be about to suffer a transfer blunder as Cenk Tosun is nearing a £1.6m move from Besiktas to MLS outfit Chicago Fire, according to Fanatik journalist Gokmen Ozcan.

The Blues let Tosun leave Goodison Park for a grand total of absolutely nothing last summer and he subsequently left for Turkish outfit Besiktas.

With Tosun now looking to get the Turkish giants a cool £1.6m, this has again highlighted the Toffees’ inept behaviour and tactics in the transfer window.

“Chicago Fire offered Cenk Tosun a 3-year contract worth $2.5 million. The MLS team is ready to pay a transfer fee of 2 million dollars to Beşiktaş,” said Ozcan on Twitter. (6 March, 10:22 AM)

“Cenk wants to leave football in Beşiktaş, but he has a new contract expectation. The work will be shaped according to the step of the management.”

Everton

Poor in every sense of the word.

With Everton’s dire financial straits plain for all football fans to see, recouping money for players you’ve paid stupid amounts for has to be a priority in transfer windows.

And whilst £1.6m does by no means cover £27m Everton paid for Tosun, it would have at least given the Blues something for the forward. [Sky Sports]

Tosun certainly wasn’t the striker Evertonians were hoping for and the Blues still haven’t seemed to find a striker capable of taking this team forward.

Nevertheless, Everton should have tried to offload Tosun long before his Blues contract came to an end, especially after he was just being loaned out all the time.

It’s another transfer story at Goodison Park which just seems to make zero sense and yet another example of the bizarre dealings the club have been producing in recent years.

Every penny counts for Everton at this moment in time and getting something for Tosun before he became a free agent would have been the savvy move to make.
