Everton: Farhad Moshiri looks after himself yet again as ‘scrutiny’ emerges again

The Daily Mail reported on 7 March that Farhad Moshiri had decided not to sell Everton due to the “scrutiny” he may face from the government due to his links to sanctioned oligarch Alisher Usmanov.

The report claims that Moshiri received several “serious” bids for Everton but chose against selling the club to save his own interests once again.

Moshiri’s relationship with Usmanov was obviously a shady one and by getting such characters involved with deals at the club, the Everton owner showed he doesn’t have the Toffees’ best interests at heart.

“Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has opted against selling the club amidst concerns that a sale could attract scrutiny from the government due to his links with sanctioned oligarch Alisher Usmanov,” as quoted by the Daily Mail. (7 March)

“Moshiri is understood to have received several serious bids for Everton, which he values at £500million, but is not pursuing any of them at present, with New York-based investment fund MSP Sports Capital expected to take a minority stake instead.

“Government sources have told Sportsmail that they are monitoring a possible sale of Everton, with their interest heightened by the publication of a White Paper on the creation of an independent regulator last month which will give them so-called ‘back-stop powers’ to prevent takeovers.”

With the government obviously keeping a hawkeye on how Moshiri will move next, Everton are left in the precarious position of having an owner who doesn’t want to sell.

And not just any owner, one which every Evertonian wants to be ousted from the club, an opinion Moshiri clearly doesn’t seem to care about if it means he avoids trouble himself.

This just about sums up Moshiri’s reign at Everton so far, he’s got the team in a right old mess, on and off the pitch and is now doing little to make up for his mistakes.

New ownership is every fans dream right now and it’s exactly what Everton needs to take the club to the next level, something Moshiri is denying Evertonians from enjoying.

The potential MSP Sports Captial investment will hopefully be the start of something like this taking place, nevertheless, Moshiri’s need to keep it at a bare minimum is frustrating, to say the least.

This is a dark shadow which right now, shows no sign of disappearing.
