Everton fear relegation most as worrying contract clause news emerges
Everton are fearing the “creeping shadow” of relegation with many players in their squad not having mandatory relegation clauses, according to The Athletic.
The report shares how a staggering £260m was lost across the last two years of publicly-available accounts and annual staff costs at the last count stood at £183m.
Everton have been a mainstay in the English top flight since 1954, however, relegation to the Championship this time around could see them stuck there for a while.

“Of all the clubs in danger of relegation, it is Everton who perhaps fear its creeping shadow most,” as quoted by The Athletic. (10 March)
“That is only the start of Everton’s problems. A staggering £260million was lost across the last two years of publicly-available accounts and annual staff costs at the last count stood at £183million. That was the eighth highest in the division and accounted for 95 per cent of turnover.
“Worryingly, plenty in the squad do not have mandatory relegation clauses.”

Nightmarish.
This is nightmarish stuff for Evertonians, who are fully aware of the position their club are currently in, one which could be the start of a drastic downfall.
Relegation to the Championship would be a terrible scenario to take place and fans calling for a reset at the club would be sorely mistaken.
With finances already in dire straights and a new stadium to pay for, god knows where the Toffees would end up if relegation took place this year.
League One? League Two? Maybe that is being slightly over dramatic, but it’s happened many times before Everton and the club need to be cautious of a calamitous fall down the pyramid.
The Blues could be saved by selling star assets if they were to go down, nevertheless, it’s hard to imagine how a 53,000 seater stadium built for £500m would look in the Championship.
It’s scary times right now on the Blue half of Merseyside and fans need to keep everything crossed that relegation is avoided.
