Everton must explore savvy £13m transfer for Lecce midfielder Joan Gonzalez

Everton are one of a number of clubs chasing the in-demand Lecce midfielder Joan Gonzalez over a potential £13m move, according to Toro.

Gonzalez might not be a name familiar to most Evertonians, however, he’s been lighting up Serie A this season with some classy performances.

The report from Toro on 9 March claims that fans in Italy have been above all “amazed” by Gonzalez’s early season performances.

“Signed from Barcelona in the summer, there are eyes on him not only from Juventus and Milan but also from Tottenham, Everton, West Ham and Borussia Dortmund,” as quoted by Toro (9 March)

With Everton clearly interested in the talented starlet and a squad overhaul needed at Goodison Park this summer, making a move for the Lecce maestro actually makes a lot of sense.

Any potential incomings at Goodison Park will rely on the Toffees securing Premier League promotion but a shrewd move for Gonzalez wouldn’t go amiss.

The 21-year-old’s price tag is well within the Blues budget and with the club strangle held by financial constraints they must explore cheap deals like this one.

Standing at 6ft 3, Gonzalez is an imposing figure and it’s this kind of attribute that would put him in perfect stead to thrive in the physical and harsh Premier League.

His ability to track back as well as bomb up the pitch will be attractive to Sean Dyche and would perfectly fit into his high-intensity system.

Having joined Barcelona at the U18s level, Gonzalez graduated from the renowned La Masia academy, a glossy fact that will get Evetonians licking their lips.

With Tom Davies continuously looking out of sorts and not up to the job of being part of a Premier League team, Gonzalez would be the perfect upgrade to make on the Englishman should survival be achieved.
