Chelsea share Edouard Mendy update ahead of Premier League clash v Everton

Chelsea have confirmed Edouard Mendy has returned to first-team training ahead of their Premier League fixture against Everton on Saturday evening.

Sean Dyche’s side make the trip to the capital looking for back-to-back Premier League victories. Graham Potter’s men have picked up in recent weeks and are coming off of an impressive 3-1 away win against Leicester City.

Mendy has been out of action since before the World Cup with a fractured finger with his last game for Chelsea coming on 12 November. The 31-year-old represented Senegal in Qatar but underwent surgery on the finger issue in the early part of January (Chelsea’s official website, 14 March).

Solid

The key for Everton at Stamford Bridge is to remain solid for as long as they possibly can. The wins under Dyche have been due to an excellent defensive structure and discipline.

The former Burnley boss will certainly be looking to avoid a repeat of their last trip to the capital. The 4-0 defeat to Arsenal was the worst moment of his tenure to date. The Toffees were easily carved apart when the first goal went in.

Everton

Chelsea aren’t on the same level as Arsenal at present and have struggled to break teams down, particularly at home. Southampton were the latest side to leave Stamford Bridge with all three points and it’s something Everton will be looking to replicate.

Realistically, a point would be an excellent result. There’s a lot of time left in the season and due to Chelsea’s immense spending, they are expected to pick up all three points. Nevertheless, there’s an opportunity for a Dyche masterclass if his side can withstand large swathes of pressure.
