Moussa Dembele ‘definitely’ leaving Lyon, Everton could save £3m on £50k-a-week forward
Moussa Dembele is set to depart Lyon in the summer which could see Everton reignite their move for the 26-year-old forward.
Dembele has endured a tough season for the Ligue 1 side, scoring just three goals in 21 domestic fixtures during the 2022/23 season.
His exit now looks likely after Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed (via Twitter, 21 March) he would “definitely” leave in the summer.
It’s understood there is interest from England, Germany and Italy in the former Celtic striker. Plettenberg has also suggested Dembele’s current salary is around £2.65million a year (£50,000-a-week).
The Mirror claimed (31 January) the Toffees were keen on landing the forward towards the end of the January transfer window and the news of his departure from Lyon could see a summer move materialise.
Scottish Daily Mail (20 January, page 73) suggested Dembele will be available for £3million during the winter trading period. However, the club could now land the striker for free, if they move quickly in the summer.

Despite his poor form this season, his overall record is impressive with 70 goals scored in 169 appearances for the Ligue 1 side. A goalscorer is certainly required for Sean Dyche in the summer and he would be an excellent addition.
The uncertainty over his future at Lyon has clearly played a role in his dip in form. He’s in the prime of his career and Dyche will fancy his chances of getting a tune out of him. We all saw how impressive he was for Celtic. The Frenchman is a good age and a move to England would be the natural progression.
One for Everton fans to keep an eye on, particularly after Plettenberg’s update.
