Everton could be docked points after Goodison Park Premier League charge emerges

Everton could be docked points after the club were charged with an alleged breach of the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play rules, according to The Guardian.

The charge comes after a 10-month investigation after Burnley and Leeds wrote to the Premier League to question whether Everton broke financial regulations.

The Guardian claim (24 March) the Toffees could now be fined or docked points if they’re found guilty of any wrongdoing.

Everton are yet to comment on the charge and insisted they weren’t guilty of any wrongdoing when the accusations emerged last year.

Wow

This is a day the Toffees would have been dreading. It really doesn’t look good for the club going forward. Financial issues are being dealt with extremely seriously nowadays and the Premier League could look to make an example in this case.

A points deduction would be the worst-case scenario, but if that is the outcome, it could well be suspended and implemented at the start of the 2023/24 season. Furthermore, it’s unlikely it would be a significant points deduction.

They haven’t gone into administration or declared any sort of financial disaster. Leeds and Burnley are probably both feeling slightly smug after the latest development. Burnley will suggest the decision has come too late after they were relegated last year.

However, with the Clarets now at the top of the Championship, they could have the last laugh. All eyes will now be on Everton’s response to the situation and the potential implications moving forward. Hopefully, a hefty fine is the final outcome
