Alex Iwobi shares private message Everton chairman Bill Kenwright sent him

Alex Iwobi has shared that Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has messaged him privately several times, but he’s only seen Farhad Moshiri once since joining the club.

The Nigeria international joined the club back in 2019, and has been one of the club’s more consistent performers over the last 12 months as they’ve battled against relegation.

When speaking during an appearance on The Beautiful Game podcast (27 March), Iwobi was asked about his dealings with the board and if they feel adequately supported from above when he admitted his interactions with Moshiri have been fleeting in comparison with Kenwright.

“Moshiri has come in once since I’ve been at Everton,” he said. “He just gave a small speech and left.

“Bill Kenwright gave an emotional speech when Frank Lampard was around and obviously I don’t know about Moshiri but Kenwright has messaged me a couple of times as well.

“He’s messaged saying he appreciates the work [we’re doing]. So I know he even explained his story of supporting Everton since he was a kid, and he just wants Everton to do well.

“He’s definitely someone who loves the club. Even the speech he gave, me and all the players are thinking if the owners loves the club and puts his all into the club, we have to at least give 100% the same way he does for the club.”

No shock

It’s no surprise to anyone affiliated with Everton that Farhad Moshiri doesn’t show himself to the players at all, whether things are going okay or badly.

His ownership at the club has been full of false promises and a belief that spending money can solves issues, but he’s spent it so badly we’ve gone backwards now.

As for Kenwright, there is no doubt and never has been doubt about the fact he loves Everton but he needs to do more to help the club instead of just standing by and watching it crumble.

The fact that the chairman is sending messages to the squad, including Iwobi, suggests there is an open line of communication there for senior players and Iwobi is clearly among them.

But now we need to avoid relegation and look at it once again in the summer, because changes need to be made at both boardroom level and in the player’s changing room too.
