Fabrizio Romano shares £60m update on Amadou Onana amid Everton exit speculation

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana’s price tag this summer could be close to £50m-£60m as the Belgian is attracting interest again for the summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

According to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad, both Arsenal and Chelsea who have a long-held interest are lining up to sign the Goodison Park star man with the report revealing that the Toffees are looking to recoup between £50-£60m for the former Lille midfielder.

The £33m Everton summer signing has been an absolute revelation for the Toffees throughout the campaign and Belgian journalist Sacha Taviolieri revealed on 5 April that there is no official price yet for the midfielder but the Blues will soon hold meetings to decide.

Everton

Romano, speaking on his CaughtOffside substack column [6 April] reveals that there is nothing concrete yet regarding Chelsea’s interest, while Arsenal currently have other names on their list for the summer window.

He said: “Amadou Onana is attracting interest again as some fans ask me about reports mentioning both Chelsea and Arsenal. He was on Chelsea’s list in January, but I’m not sure yet if it’s something concrete for them in the summer. Arsenal have different names on the list at this stage.

“I think his price tag would be close to £55-60m.”

Costs more

It was only going to be a matter of time before Onana’s performances attracted the attention of Europe’s elite, and it now seems that Everton will face a tough and frustrating fight to keep their star midfielder on their books at Goodison Park.

The Belgian has been an instant hit since his £33m summer move, showcasing his irresistible and dominant talents from midfield in just his first season in England, and his qualities certainly warrant a bigger platform than Everton potentially.

Everton

Onana’s progressive qualities seem an ideal fit for both Arsenal and Chelsea or even the Manchester clubs but if he is to leave this summer, he will have to decide whether he would get the game-time he deserves. That will be a major deal breaker for any move.

And Everton will feel they are in a very pleasing position when it comes to the rampaging midfielder’s future with his contract at Goodison running till 2027. With that in mind, £50-£60m seems too little, and we believe he costs more than that considering the current market.

Considering the financial difficulties Farhad Moshiri finds himself in right now – needing significant funding for the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium and currently embroiled in an FFP investigation – it looks like Dyche is going to have a limited war chest to attack the summer transfer window with right now.

So if Onana is to leave, the Toffees must ensure they suck every pound they can from any of those clubs. Players like him are priceless commodities.
