Tom Cannon wows EFL pundit amid ‘incredible’ feat, Everton loanee looks ‘comfortable and confident’
EFL pundit Dean Ashton has heaped praise on “incredible” Everton loanee Tom Cannon, who scored his sixth goal in as many games for Preston against Reading on Monday (10 April).
The 20-year-old is now on seven goals for the campaign since joining the Championship club on loan from the Toffees in January.
The centre-forward has helped his club rise to seventh place in the table, with a place in the playoff spots now a possibility thanks to his goals.

“Yeah, almost a one-in-two man, which at Championship level is incredible for such a young player – with such little experience,” said Ashton, as quoted by Lancs Live.
“But, he is looking more and more comfortable and confident. Another lovely finish to add to the others he has produced this season.”

Scintillating form
Cannon has proven himself in the Everton youth ranks, scoring 29 goals for the club’s under-18s and 22 goals for the club’s under-21s in recent times.
And he has now taken that form from youth level into men’s football, showing no signs of struggling with the major step up in quality with seven goals from his 16 matches.
He has just three senior Everton appearances to his name, but those numbers could rise next season when the Toffees inevitably hand him opportunities in the first team given his feats on loan.
Preston have now come out of nowhere to be real playoff contenders with five wins in their last six Championship matches, with Cannon’s goals key to that recent success.
Such form may also catch the attention of Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny, who has shown he will absolutely entrust young players with the responsibility of taking the nation to the next level.
Born in England, Cannon has represented Ireland at youth level, playing for the nation at various age groups.
