Everton: Danny Murphy shocked at footage of what Sean Dyche did in 3-1 Premier League defeat vs Fulham
Danny Murphy was “really surprised” at Everton changing formation during their 3-1 Premier League defeat to Fulham on Saturday (15 April).
Goals from Harrison Reed, Harry Wilson and Dan James saw Marco Silva’s side end their four-game losing run and inflict a damaging defeat on Sean Dyche’s men.
Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Murphy was surprised at Dyche’s decision to utilise a two-man midfield during the defeat at Goodison Park.

“I was really surprised to see Everton play a new system of 4-4-2,” said Murphy (Match of the Day, 1hr 02m 41s, 15 April).
“They had the two men in the centre of midfield which left them wide open. They’ve been hard to beat at home with that three-man midfield and he changed it today.
“[James] Garner and [Idrissa] Gueye in there, chasing the ball. It wasn’t a lack of effort it was just they weren’t used to playing as a two and it created an end-to-end game, which is not what Everton want.”

After the difficult run of fixtures against Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United, Everton would’ve been hoping to cash in against Fulham. The West Londoners were bang out of form and this result could have a catastrophic impact on the 2022/23 season.
Back-to-back losses mean the Toffees are now teetering on the edge of the relegation zone and will be hoping Manchester United can put in a convincing performance against Nottingham Forest on Sunday (16 April).
Everton’s run-in includes Manchester City and Newcastle, as well as a difficult trip to Crystal Palace in their next fixture.

It’s important Dyche gets back to what he knows and ensures his side are a tough nut to crack once again. Abdoulaye Doucouré’s red card has come at a bad time and the former Burnley boss will be desperate to have the 30-year-old back available for selection.
It’s essential the players don’t let this result impact them in a negative way. They’ve bounced back well under Dyche and another reaction will be required at Selhurst Park.
