Everton stadium completion update emerges amid Goodison ‘distinct’ possibility

The new Everton stadium will be completed even if the Toffees are relegated to the Championship, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Chris Beesley.

Daily Mail columnist Ian Herbert claimed (4 April) the club could be forced to sell the stadium if they are relegated to the Championship.

However, despite relegation being a “distinct possibility”, Beesley has suggested the stadium will be completed regardless of the Toffees’ league status.

Everton

“What I will say is that the club have been adamant for over a year now that the completion of the new stadium will go ahead, even if the worst comes to the worst and Everton are relegated,” said Beesley (Liverpool Echo Q&A, 20 April).

“Let’s be honest, given how close the Premier League table is at the bottom, that remains a distinct possibility.”

Vital

Let’s be honest, nobody knows the full extent of the damage relegation could cause and, at present, it’s a possibility which cannot be considered. The new stadium rumbling on in the background has caused further pressure to be piled on the players heading into the run-in.

It did feel as if things had turned around under Sean Dyche, however, the defeat against Fulham saw the bottom three hone into view once again. A trip to in-form Crystal Palace awaits and it will be interesting to see how Dyche’s side react.

Everton

The performances against Tottenham and Chelsea were promising, but ultimately results are the only concern. One downside for Everton is their fixture list, with only three more games at Goodison Park to come. We saw the impact of the fans during the 2021/22 season and the players now need the supporters once again to ensure they stand a chance of picking up three positive results at home.
