Supercomputer shares new Everton and Leeds United relegation prediction after Premier League twist

Everton and Leeds United are both predicted to follow Southampton down to the Championship after Sunday’s Premier League developments, according to a supercomputer.

The Toffees head to Leicester on Monday (1 May) with a chance to climb up to 16th, a day after Javi Gracia’s side were thrashed 4-1 by Bournemouth on Sunday, while Southampton lost once more at Newcastle.

But Everton are still bang in trouble according to the statistical analysis and are currently predicted to finish in 19th after picking up only four more points before the end of the season.

Everton

After Sunday’s results FiveThirtyEight‘s prediction model has Southampton remaining adrift at the bottom, with Everton four points above and Leeds one better still – not good enough for any of the three.

The Saints have a 98% chance of going down and look to be without hope, while the Toffees have a 66% likelihood of Championship football, with the Whites narrowly failing to beat Nottingham Forest out of trouble.

Dismal

If Everton can’t lift themselves out of danger with the teams around them performing so dismally then they will only have themselves to blame.

Granted, the situation at the club more widely is anything but conducive to a well-oiled machine on the pitch, but with home support like the Toffees have they have shown before they can grind out a 1-0 when needed.

But it is far too long since that last happened, and there feels like a growing air of inevitability about the whole situation after the limp defeat to Anthony Gordon’s Newcastle on Thursday (27 April).

Everton

Sean Dyche’s side have been handed a perfect opportunity to give themselves a fighting chance with Leeds and Southampton losing a day after West Ham and Forest did in this weekend’s fixtures.

They won’t get many more chances, since even in a relegation battle that seems to be beset with sides giving their fans nothing to cheer, someone has to get a result at some point.

If Everton are that team they can still get out of it, but if they manage to pull it off from this point it is certainly against the odds now.
