Everton send intermediaries for James Rodriguez reunion as Goodison Park transfer news emerges
Everton are one of three Premier League clubs who have sent intermediaries to discuss the possibility of signing James Rodriguez this summer, according to journalist Christian Martin.
The Colombian international and two-time Champions League winner left the Toffees in unceremonious circumstances in the summer of 2021 after failing to see eye to eye with manager Rafa Benitez.
Rodriguez, 31, had his contract with Olympiacos terminated in April and is now a free agent ahead of the summer transfer window.

“From our sources, the inquiries have been, through intermediaries, from Crystal Palace, by Bournemouth, from Everton themselves,” Martin said on the El Futbolero Youtube channel, and as relayed by AS (9 May).

Wrong profile
Although a high-profile reunion with Rodriguez could excite some portions of the Everton fanbase, it is tough to see how the playmaker could really have any kind of effect on Sean Dyche’s team.
Yes, the Toffees are in need of creativity in attacking areas, with Abdoulaye Doucoure the man currently tasked with playing in a more advanced midfield position, but going back to the Colombian looks like a poor option.
The free agent started off life at Goodison Park in brilliant style when signing under Carlo Ancelotti, but the unsavoury manner in which he left the club will always be the one lingering memory in fans’ minds.
For other Premier League clubs who have the money to afford Rodriguez’s high wages, this seems like a no-brainer, but Everton have been there and done it before.
If anything, crawling back to the former Real Madrid player would be a major step back for Everton.
