Sean Dyche’s side host Pep Guardiola’s men on Sunday afternoon looking to put some distance between themselves and the bottom three.
Writing in his latest column for The Telegraph on 12 May, Carragher suggested the clash is the most “pivotal” between the two sides.

“Whatever the criticism of City given the Premier League charges against them, no one can argue with the quality of their football and recruitment,” wrote Carragher.
“Everton have the same cloud over them regarding their spending without the same results and performances.
“That is why the two clubs have been on vastly different trajectories since their respective buy-outs.
“Now they meet for arguably their most pivotal meeting ever, City’s excellence from the top down putting them on the brink of an historic Treble, Everton’s poor leadership leaving them on the edge of catastrophe.”
Hostile
A hostile atmosphere is a must on Sunday afternoon. City are in imperious form at present but they do have other things to worry about. The upcoming Champions League clash against Real Madrid will certainly have all of Guardiola’s attention.
The pinnacle of European football has alluded Guardiola at The Etihad and the Spaniard will be desperate to complete a clean sweep. City potentially resting a couple of players could open the door for Everton. The performance against Brighton has given Evertonians hope.

The players have shown they’re capable of putting on an electric attacking performance. They will need to replicate their performance against Brighton when City make the trip to Merseyside. With Wolves and Bournemouth to come, there’s a genuine chance of Everton securing their Premier League survival.
We all know of the financial issues and what that could mean going forward. Top-flight football would certainly help on that front.
