Dominic Calvert-Lewin wows Sky Sports pundit in first half incident in Everton v Manchester City

Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin started the clash with Manchester City on Sunday (14 May) “incredibly strongly,” according to Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe.

The striker’s first touch was “excellent” as he operated in a lone striker role for Sean Dyche’s men at Goodison Park.

The match represents just the 16th Premier Lague appearance of the season for the injury-hit forward.

“Calvert-Lewin has started the game incredibly strongly,” Hinchcliffe said during the first half on Sky Sports Main Event. “His hold-up play is so important when you play this way, when you’re forced to play this way.

“But his first touch has been excellent. He’s secured the ball and he can bring his teammates into the game.”

Very difficult test

This was always going to be one of, if not the most difficult, fixtures of the entire season for Everton before a ball was even kicked.

But the fact that Manchester City are currently pushing for another league title and the Toffees are currently involved in another relegation battle has made things even more difficult for the Merseyside outfit.

But while a huge 50 points separated the two sides going into the match, many Everton supporters were in high spirits going into the game following their 5-1 win against Brighton on Monday (8 May), with the Seagulls enjoying a superb campaign despite that humiliation.

Manchester City are, however, a different monster entirely, with Pep Guardiola’s players well-drilled and well-prepared to make sure a similar performance to Brighton did not happen to them at Goodison Park.

It’s a massive 45 minutes on Merseyside now for both clubs, with the hosts desperate to gain something from this near-impossible encounter as the visitors look to push away from Arsenal at the top of the table, even as the two goals have made it an uphill struggle for the Toffees.
