Gary Neville reacts to Everton 3-0 Premier League loss v Manchester City

Gary Neville has claimed Manchester City’s 3-0 Premier League win over Everton was a like “stroll” in the park.

An Ilkay Gundogan brace and Erling Haaland header saw Pep Guardiola’s side to the brink of the Premier League title after Arsenal’s loss to Brighton.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, the former Manchester United defender felt the Premier League champions were “professional” at Goodison Park.

“I thought today was a day of two potential banana skins, Manchester City going to Goodison Park and Arsenal having Brighton, who are a difficult and awkward opponent,” said Neville (Gary Neville Podcast, 0m 47s, 14 May).

“They [City] were so professional and it was a stroll in the park and Everton are fighting for their lives.”

Levels above

City are levels above most teams in Europe, so we shouldn’t get too down after this result. We knew it was going to be a tough test and for most of the first half, the Toffees stood firm. It was a moment of brilliance from Gundogan and a lapse in concentration from the defence which allowed City to move into a two-goal lead.

Realistically, all eyes were always looking ahead to the upcoming clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers. A win against Julen Lopetegui’s side could see the Toffees safe if a number of results fall their way. The final-day clash against Bournemouth also looks appealing, but the fanbase will be desperate for it not to reach that point.

Everton

The recent win over Brighton should give Dyche’s side plenty of confidence. They were scintillating on the South Coast. Dwight McNeil was unplayable and Dominic Calvert-Lewin looked back to his best. If something similar can be replicated at Molineux, they stand an excellent chance of picking up all three points.
